The World’s most Amazingly Innovative Homes

For most of us homes mean division of rooms into living room, bedrooms, bathrooms, etc. But as homes are becoming more and more attuned to suit our lifestyles, it is inevitable that some homes have evolved so much that they fall into the weird category, or maybe not?! Well, you decide.

1. Leaf House, Angra dos Ries, Brazil

Shaped like the six petals of a flower, Leaf House was designed by architect firm Mareines+Patalano. Each petal covers a different section of the home. Note, that there are only sections inside this home, as the design is free of any hallways to promote winds to blow through. The swimmng pool works its way through this house to culminate at the back of the house into a small pond replete with fish and vegetation!

2. Everingham Rotating House, Taree, Australia

This octagonal house has the ability to rotate a full 360 degrees with electronically operated power pad. The house is supported by 32 outrigger wheels for the motion and is powered by 500 watt electric motors. The entire spinning can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Wondering how the underground wiring fares when the house is rotating? Well, the eletrical wiring and plumbing is centralized in a way that they don’t intefere with the rotation. Amazing isn’t it?!

3. The Nautilus, Mexico City, Mexico

Well here’s something we all can learn from. This piece of beauty is designed like a sea shell with soft folds of the shell blending into the mosiac façade. Designed by celebrity architect Javier Sensonian, who practices “bio-aarchitecture”, this house is many amongst the ones designed on the lines of bio diversity like whales, snakes and several other animals. Does anyone really live in this house? Only vegetation and small trees.

4. Montesilo, woodland, Utah

Talk about saving space and yet having the world’s most entertaining homes at the same time. The Montesilo was created by joining together two corrugated grain silos. This fun home has bedrooms cut into walls like cubby holes but amazingly, each bedroom comes with its own set of entertainment unit! Now, that is real space saving and susainiable living.

5. Steel House, Lubbock, Texas

This is one home that has perhaps taken the longest to finish. Started in 1974 by architect Robert Bruno, The Steel House shaped like an animal and a machine. Deviating from the norm of building the skeleton of the house first, Bruno has aproached this house like a sculptor would his scultpture. He constantly modifies his structure which has four legs and a cantilivered design to minimize the impact made by the structure on the earth below.

6. Subterra Castle, Kansas

Perhaps the most unique homes on our list is this Subterra castle that once housed four megaton of nuclear warheads! Ed Pedin ourchased this silo in 1983 but was fraught with the task of pumping out 10 years of rainwaterfrom this defunct missile silo. Now that this house is a cozy living space, Ed Pedin is particularlyproud of his 11,000 square feet garage and 1700 foot long airtstrip.
