Interior Design Trends that will rule 2015

Relax! This is only a forecast. It is impossible to say which trends will rule 2015, when there is so much happening in the design industry at a very fast pace. But, we have been keeping a keen eye on what worked in 2014 and going forward, which colors will be in, which fabrics and patterns will be in, which cultures will be seen more inside homes and what will we bid good bye to.

Here are a few trends that we hope to see in 2015.

• Colors of the Season: 2014 ended with emphasis on ethnic colors. In 2015, be ready to welcome some colors that we haven’t seen in ages. Gentle colors like matted pastels, soft and smoky grays with lots of texture to them and shiny colors at the opposite end of the spectrum. The 2 colors that completely are winning our heart this New Year are Greek Blue, borrowed from the top of the churches in Santorini and Ochre Yellow, a deep and rich yellow which adds a life to any home and works with literally any combination.

• Fabrics and Patterns: In fabrics, velvet textures and raw looking weaves are in. We also expect to see a lot of geometrical patterns, which can brilliantly weave together a classy and chic look. Since we are speaking of patterns, it is apt to mention that photographic images of celebrities in street art and silhouettes are making a mark in the living rooms.

• Nature’s Influence: 2014 saw a lot of animal prints in the fashion industry. The New Year will see this influence percolating into our homes. Textures are also being derived from nature like botany, wood, bark, stone and organic prints. We are leaning more towards woods that have a raw and unfinished texture to them. Shiny textures, which give a processed look to anything will be used sparingly and only to accentuate the raw wood texture.

• Matte making a comeback: In keeping with the tradition of softer and natural textures, we expect that matte finish will add depth to existing textures. It also allows one to appreciate the natural form of the material. This trend will be seen everywhere from lighting, to fabrics, to furniture and fixtures.

• Preserving Naturally occurring Shapes: Homes became cleaner and crisper with angles and depths in them. In 2015, we expect this trend to reverse so be ready welcome organic shapes which are rounder, softer, less rigid and inspired by nature. Expect to see this trend mainly in lighting, ceramics, glassware and accessories.

• Merging Cultures: ‘Eclectic’ is in this year. Expect the interiors to be inspired by a mix of rich cultures around the world. We will see this influence, not only in colors, patterns and textures but also in curios, that dot an eclectic home.
