8 Budget Friendly Tips to make your Home Stand Out

Throughout India we see apartments that not only look alike from the outside but also possess a similar internal layout. In such a case, there is little to you can do to make your space stand out, right? Think again! Your home interiors still can be different from others. If you put your heart and soul into it, there is a real chance you could make your home look like a million bucks without actually spending a tenth of that amount!

1. Consider Crown Molding for Walls: Crown molding takes the boring out of the walls and gives them a rich look. Without it, the walls look unfinished and cheap. Crown molding comes very cheap if you know what you are looking for, so do your research well.

2. Paint Pain? Choosing paint colors can really be a pain in the wrong place. The trick is not to get overwhelmed by all the colors and textures offered in the market. Simply accentuate one or two of the four walls with a neutral high pigment shade and leave the rest white. Another easy trick to add a lux feel to the interiors is to paint the doors black. This makes the space instantly look glamorous. Be sure to throw in some black accessories to match the doors.

3. Throw Pillows: Forget the small and regular sized pillows this time. While we agree that throw pillows can add chutzpah to your living room, opt for large size and overstuffed pillows for that added luxurious feel. The smaller size pillows are of no real use anyways. Large pillows allow you to sink into them making you feel loved and relaxed.

4. Window Treatment: Curtains can be expensive. That’s what keeps us from buying that uber luxe material and we end up going for flimsy fabric that screams poor quality. Instead of buying cheap curtains just off the rack, select heavier materials yourself and get them stitched. Hang them close to the cleaning and give ample ruffles to make them look their best.

5. Hardware Headaches: If you are not satisfied with having the same fixtures and bathroom hardware as your neighbor, worry not. Simply pick out new ones from a good plumbing shop. For drawer pulls and door knobs, even stuff from a flea market works well.

6. Lighting: Subtle lighting adds character and sophistication to any room. For living rooms opt for metal chandeliers for a dated yet ethnic look. Station a few table lamps here and there for accent lighting. Stick to muted and matt lamp shades. Remember matte is in, shiny is out!

7. Furniture color: Always remember, dark wood looks richer than lighter tones. Dark wood with raw unfinished texture adds character to your furniture. However, if you do opt for lighter wood, go for raw finishes that look as close to nature as possible.

8. Accessories: Gold! Most of us shy away from gold as it is very easy to overdo it. But specks of gold here and there work wonders. Consider Gold gilded frames, gold baubles, brass finishing, etc combined with the color black.
